I AM NOT DEAD!!!

I'm just not very interesting lately, either.

Since graduation, I've been looking for/applying for jobs, but no one wants to hire me. Yet. So most of my days are spent lolling about the house, walking to the library, and occassionally typing.

I'm working on converting fanfiction novella, Pirate Princess I co-wrote with felsong (which can be found over on ff.net under her screenname) into an original. So that means a lot of research as well as typing. Thank goodness for THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO PIRATES or I would never have been able to pull the first encounter with the crew of the Fearless off. And a couple of people got recast in the rewrite which was hard work. Lots of little notes fill the margins of the pages.

I also ready Sun-Tzu's THE ART OF WAR for PP. It was really short, and a lot of it was sort of common sense stuff, but there were some things that were interesting and that it helped to just have put down into words to better understand or realize consciously what I was writting instinctively. But it wasn't really that illuminating. I'm thinking about reading Machiavelli's ART OF WAR next. THE PRINCE was interesting. I think I still have it...no, I sold it back to the campus book store. But anyway, Machiavelli!

Plus, maps. Lots of maps. I have a whole world dynamic figured out now. It's fun creating worlds. I'm a god. When people in my world use someone's name in vain, they're using mine! It's great! Okay, I'm a big dork, but seriously, you should try it.

Well, I just wanted to update and let you guys know I'm still here. I am. I'm just...restricted to one hour of internet time at the library because we STILL don't have the internet at home. I really need to get my own place. And as soon as someone hires me and I have money for rent I'll go get one. I love my family, but seriously? At almost 23, I am not having fun sharing a pink, Hello Kitty room with teeny-bopper magazine photos of Disney Channel cookie-cutter stars staring at me from every available surface. Help! Please! Anybody need a roommate?

I'm clearly insane. Let me tell you why:

On the day of my graduation (Saturday, May 10th) I was all set to get ready, be pretty, and go. Had a nice dress all picked out. Had my cap and gown hung and near at hand, it was all good.

10:20 AM--I can't find the little instruction thingy that had my place number in line on it. I looked for oven an hour, checked through the trash and recycling bins, called upon the powers of lost items, but to no avail. Now, a sane person would shrug and go, "Oh well. It happens. No big deal." *goes to get ready* But do I do this?

No.

I am convinced--morally, ethically, spiritually convinced--that they will not let me walk at graduation if I do not have this stupid piece of blue paper that says my place in line and what gate I am supposed to enter at. There are tears and panicked text messages to my mother. The graduates are supposed to be at the stadium and in line by 12:30. At 12:00 I am dressed in jeans and a tee, my curly hair that I thought to straighten now dried into unruly spirals, and I'm lying face-down on my bed in despair. Then I decide to just suck it up, get dressed, and even if they don't let me walk, I can at least be there to support my friends, right?

Of course, you know what happened, right? I get there, cap and gown in hand, miserable and penitant, go to one of the coordinating professors, and present myself, fully prepared to grovel and cry. With a blithe smile, he directs me to my place in line and promptly leaves. I'm safe. Of course I was. I'm an idiot. *face...palm*

So, all went well. I'm a bachelor of fine arts with a degree in creative writing, I'm looking for a job, and I have a cold. Well, nothing's perfect.

A 5.4 earthquake had it's epicenter 40 miles NW of Evansville at 4:36 this morning. It was crazy! I woke up feeling my bed shaking, which, I remember thinking, was making my butt shake. And then I heard the door rattling. I think I knew what it was because I remember thinking that maybe I should go stand in the door way. Then my roommate--voice sleepy-slurred--says "It's an earthquake."

I've never felt one before! I mean, supposedly I've lived through previous ones, but not that I remember, and not that I ever felt. I think I would remember that. This one I felt. It's so weird. I forget sometimes that the Midwest is on a fault line. Well, I'll remember from now on!

UPDATE: A little after 10:00 (:15- :20) we had an aftershock. My Advanced Exposition class talked our prof into having class outside in the plaza when all of a sudden I felt the concrete bench I was sitting on start to move. We're having construction on campus this year, so I thought for a minute it was as a result of something they were doing over there, but it lasted for a couple of seconds before I looked over at one of my classmates and asked, "Do you feel that, too?"

She nodded.

And then everyone went, yup! That's an aftershock. In the words of Alice, one of the girls in class, "Yay! That was my earthquake virginity!" Apparently she slept through the big one at 4:30, so by her logic, it was like being drunk when you loose your real virginity; it doesn't count.

Makes for an interesting and slightly-sacraligious class, let me tell you.) Anyway, right inside was a little male chickadee (I only know this because my grandpa is a bird watcher, and when I was little he let me help identify birds in his bird encyclopedia) who had obviously flown in when the organist, or whoever opened the doors for people to get in arrived. He wasn't distressed or anything, but after I put my stuff in the classroom, I went back into the hall and managed to herd him outside again. I felt very good about this. Helping my fellow creatures. It was a good start to the day.

Friday, February 29: Dad came and picked me up to go home at 4:00 in the afternoon. We made good time until just outside of Florence, Kentucky when we were rerouted onto tiny little Dixie Highway. Dad=furious and pissy. Not fun. Got home. Ate pizza. Chatted with Mom. Went to bed.
Saturday, March 1: Went shopping. Bought cute spring outfit and funky new sunglasses. A win.
Sunday, March 2: I don't remember.
Monday, March 3: Got wisdom teeth removed. Spent the rest of the day loopy and doped up with icepacks on my cheeks.
Tuesday, March 4-Thursday, March 6: Aches and pains, nothing too drastic. Slight reation to one of the pain meds but not too bad. Watcher LotR movies 1 and 2 and read Halfblood Prince (I blame you, curikitten!).
Friday, March 7: The snow started. Went back to orthodonists who said I was healing up nicely. Watcher LotR movie 3. My mom thinks they should have just stayed home and eaten pancakes. There was a long discussion that followed about the relevance to pancakes in the Tolkien universe.
Saturday, March 8: Officially a blizzard. 9 inches and wind gusts.
Sunday, March 9: Supposed to go back to school today so I woke up at 7:30 in the morning, except that with Daylight Savings Time just in effect that morning, it felt like 6:30, you bastards. Then my parents decided that the roads were too bad and that we should wait until Tuesday to drive me back to school. Bastards, part 2. By that afternoon, I had gone to the mall and guilted my mom into buying me new snow boots since my other pair were still at school.
Monday, March 10: Walked to library to email a paper due that day to my professor who was kind and very understanding. The new boots? Not waterproof. And the temperature was nearly 50* F. Bastards, part 3.
Teusday, March 11: Back at school. Instead of doing homework, I catch up on my fanfiction. The patheticness of my life is beginning to concern me.

Last night I went to the UE production of That Scoundrel Scapin by Moliere--very funny, btw; pure parody of Shakespeare's more ludicrous comedies--and who should I have sitting behind me? Two old women and one old man who are well on their way to going to the Special Hell. They talked through almost the whole thing.

"What did she call her?"
"Oh, no. She doesn't know who she's talking too!"
"Oh! Look it's the sister. Isn't that funny."

*head/desk*
*head/desk*

She called her Hydrangia. This is humerous because her name is Hyacintha. Comedy. Shut up.
Yes, we know she doesn't know she's talking to the guy who is actually the butt of the joke. Comedy. Shut up.
Yes, it's a well known plot device wherein "journies end with lovers meeting" and families reuniting. Comedy. Shut up!

Don't talk at the theater. It's just rude.

I love fanfiction. I do. I love it so much it boarders on obsession. Okay, who am I kidding, it is an obsession. It may even be a qualified addiction. (Hi, my name is crazywriterchic and I'm a Rayne, Snape/Hermione, Cain/DG, BB/Raven, and Romy addict.)

But, you know what? There's a lot of people out there who either A) don't know Da Rulz, B) don't care about Da Rulz, or C) are just wankers and haven't bothered to even look at Da Rulz. The result: a lot of bad!fic or at least snarky authors who don't know how to behave to constructive criticism. I'm very happy to say that no one on rayne_shippers have violated (or at least no one has severely violated) these rules, and that my most favorite community in the whole world is probably one of the most open, creative, and supportive fandoms I have ever had the luck to come across. The problem is more epidemic at ff.net, and apparently at AFF. In response to this, curikitten has posted a set of Guidelines and Suggestions for Fic Writers on her LJ.

I seriously suggest you go read. The Skipper, as he was known to his friends and the guests at The Castaways, suffered a massive heart attack over his three-part dinner consisting of barbequed ribs, a T-bone steak, and banana sundae last Friday evening. Kennedy, and Mr. Gilligan, whom Skipper was known to call his “little buddy.” The Skipper was known to boast of being “the best card player in the US Navy.” He also recounted with pride the instance that Mr. Gilligan saved his life by pushing him out of the way of a loose depth-charge.

After retiring from the Navy, the Skipper and Mr. Gilligan pooled their pensions and purchased the small passenger boat Christened The Minnow and began taking passengers on three-hour tours of the Hawaiian Islands early in 1962. It was in 1964 that, unbeknownst to the Skipper, brave and sure, or his first mate who had a reputation for being “a mighty sailing man,” a typhoon was on the horizon when the Minnow, its two-man crew, and five passengers—Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Howell III, “Professor” Roy Hinkley, popular ’sixties movie star Ginger Grant, and farmgirl Mary Ann Summers—set out for another of those famous tours. The weather started getting rough, and the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of that fearless crew, the Minnow would have been lost. As it was, the seven meraculously survived both the storm and fifteen years of exile on a deserted island.

After their second rescue—the first resulting with a second accidental marooning on the same deserted island—business mogul Mr. Howell decided to invest in the island, giving it its name, and building the resort with his fellow castaways as silent partners and staff of the resort since all had become disillusioned with the modern world after their first rescue.

According to Mrs. Summers-Howell, Activities Planner and co-chair of Howell Enterprises Inc, the service for Mr. Grumby will be held at the Castaway Resort where the Skipper spent the last years of his life. It is open only to friends and intimates of the deceased. Professor Hinkley, B.A., B.S., M.A., Ph.D. and newly ordained minister will be officiating. After the funneral, the Skipper’s ashes will be returned to the ocean he so loved. A pig roast and feast in memory of the beloved Skipper will be held in the main dining room of The Castaways. Spokeswoman for the resort Ginger Grant states the flowers will be accepted and displaid. However, “only fresh flowers, please. They go better with the theme. It’s Hawaiian Luou.”

EDIT:Thank you everybody who helped! Your suggestions were taken, and errors fixed. Muchas gracias!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! LJ!!!!!!!!

I really hate the new system for choosing a layout. I really do. It's so complicated! And you can't put bannar's up for every layout, and I'm not sure which ones you can until I apply them, and that takes forever to go through the ones I like and then see what I can use a bannar with. It's really frustrating.

Last week it was nearly 60 degrees. Yesterday we had a snow and ice storm that has UE shut down for the day. Ice is cating the branches and twigs of the tree outside my window. A few times already I've heard and seen huge chuncks of it fall from the top branches onto the ground. It's actually very pretty, even if it is inconvenient.

On the up side, no class!
